Change a Life and Feed a Family with Solar Cookers

Westport, Connecticut (January 15, 2008): ISS Intelligent Skin Spa launched the Gift of Giving Campaign during the holiday season to raise funds for solar cookers that help feed families in need. The spa donated $750.00 from product proceeds to JWW (Jewish World Watch) who provide women in Africa with solar cookers.

In parts of Africa families will starve where fuel is sparse and, in areas like Darfur and Sudan, women and girls are at a high risk of being beaten and raped when leaving their refugee camps to collect firewood. Solar cookers fill critical gaps as they are cost efficient, reduce firewood collection, reduce the risk of violence towards women, are safer than hazardous wood and charcoal fires and cook naturally off of the sun’s heat. Additionally solar cookers can pasteurize water and prevent waterborne disease. It is estimated that a half a billion people need solar cookers.

ISS has extended the campaign to raise funds for solar cookers and in celebration of Valentines Day renamed the campaign the Gift of Love. 10% of all ISS kits sold from February 1st through March 31st will be donated to JWW. Just 30.00 provide two kits per family and ISS goal is to fund 100 solar kits this season.

Marlene Katz created the day spa concept in 1983 when she opened her highly acclaimed New York City spa. Clients, including many celebrities, enjoyed her home-prepared herbal skin treatments and her early insistence on the benefits of holistic anti-aging treatments. Katz sold the spa in 1993 and began developing anti-aging products for the spa industry. In 2006 Katz opened the immediately popular ISS intelligent skin spa in Westport, and she launched the ISS intelligent skin sense product line.

Marlene Katz lives in Weston, CT with her husband, an artist who owns a design firm, their daughters, and two dogs. In her free time, Marlene helps various programs for women in need, and has volunteered at Sloan Kettering's Look Good Feel Good program and mentored for Big Brother/ Big Sisters and Dress for Success.
